On El Capitan, hold option while clicking Bluetooth connectivity icon in the top bar. It gives an expanded menu selection indicating RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator?) as you hover over the connected bluetooth device.

I have a Motorola A2DP headset and on occasion with it pairs in headset mode with my MacBookPro it's very staticy and the sound is sub-par. Usually, by disabling bluetooth and then turning it back on and resyncing everything it works fine again.
I was having the same issue with a pair of Coby E7 bluetooth headphones where they sounded muffled. I went to system preferences and realized that while the audio was playing through the headphones they weren't listed under Audio -> Output as the output source.
Eventually I contacted Apple. They suggested the usual stuff. Turn the bluetooth devices and bluetooth radio off and on again. Restart the computer. Make sure the bluetooth device batteries are not low. Forget and pair the bluetooth devices again.
how I solved?. I have Mac m1 2020 and hp bluetooth mouse. There is a button underneath mouse. while on Mac pushing connect button from blueetooth preferences table, push this button non-stop too. its working how it happen I have no idea but its working

My Macbook late 2012 with MacOS 10.15.6 update recently. The bluetooth is not sync with BT5 and seldom drop off and resync itself again.Later, it start lag again.The worst is the left and right speaker are not in-sync.

Step 8 so far has worked for me. Finally! I hope, I have two pairs of 30hr Battery life Sony bluetooth headphone both would stutter and interfere with wifi signal since Catalina update. I have a pair of tronsmart bluetooth head phones that caused no problems whatsoever, no stutter, no interference. I love the Sonys because I can spend hours listening thru these and not listen to my neighbours and not have to recharge too often. Having debugged things seem back to normal.
