Sixteenth notes are a little more difficult to get down because of the speed required to play them, but I feel that you will lock in with the rhythm very quickly if you can just follow this lesson as well as Pt.2.
Take your time with this lesson since not only are you trying to be able to physically play the patterns, but feel and count the rhythms as well. In fact, it is a good idea to use your foot to tap the beat while clapping the actual strumming pattern before you try and play it on the guitar.
All of these strumming patterns are eighth note patterns so the best way to get to grips with them is to count 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and throughout. Count out loud if you need to to begin with (if you can say it, you can play it) and miss the words where no strum appears.

Knowing how to read and use pick-strum patterns is a great way to provide rhythmic variety and introduce different textures into your guitar playing. Pick-strum patterns separate the bass and treble so they play independently. In the pick-strum pattern, the pick refers to picking the single bass note, and the strum refers to the upper-string chord that follows. Both the pick and the strum are played with the pick in downstrokes.
That being said, it is relatively simple for most guitarists with even just a bit of playing experience to learn specific strum patterns and practice them, and call on these at will when a certain song or style requires it.
