If you want to activate Windows without a KMS host available and outside of a volume-activation scenario (for example, you're trying to activate a retail version of Windows client), these keys will not work. You will need to use another method of activating Windows, such as using a MAK, or purchasing a retail license. Get help to find your Windows product key and learn about genuine versions of Windows.
[German]Microsoft requires a product activation after installing. Users of Microsoft Office currently are facing trouble during telephone activation. After dealing with this issue, I came across another obscure behavior, Microsoft's 'Self Service for Mobile' solution to activate Microsoft Office via mobile devices.
Microsoft describes how to activate Microsoft Office 2013, 2016 and Office 365 within this document. There are several possibilities to activate an installed product, via Internet or via Telephone for instance. Activation by phone is required, if the maximum Internet activation threshold is reached.
Within my blog post Office Telephone activation is no longer supported error I've addressed the basis issue. If a user re-installs Office, the phone activation fails. The activation dialog box shows the message "Telephone activation is no longer supported for your product".
I didn't inspect the posted link until writing last Fridays blog post Office Telephone activation is no longer supported error. My idea was, to mention the "Self Service for Mobile" page within the new article. I managed to alter the link to direct it to the English Self Service for Mobile language service site. Suddenly I noticed, that both, the German and also the English "Self Service for Mobile" sites uses https, but are flagged as "unsecure" in Google Chrome (see the screenshot below, showing the German edition of this web page.
Addendum: The 1st link is broken, but another reader (see comments below) posted the new link ( =microsoft&appkey=196de13c-e946-4531-98f6-2719ec8405ce). The link points to a website, that provides an ability to activate Microsoft Office (go to Product Activation see screenshot above).

You're a god among mankind. Thanks for this input, you're making my day and I think the day of several other SysAdmins haha.I will make sure to spread the word, despite the concerns about security this activation portal saves me so much time, been a while that a portal page so simple and badly designed was so useful. The product keys that are installed on the client products must have a sufficient number of remaining activations. If you're activating a MAK key, you can retrieve the remaining number of activations for that key by selecting the MAK in the product key list in the center pane and then clicking Refresh product key data online in the right-side pane. This action retrieves the number of remaining activations for the MAK from Microsoft. This step requires Internet access and that the remaining activation count can only be retrieved for MAKs.
VAMT displays the Activating products dialog box until it completes the requested action. When activation is complete, the status appears in the Action Status column of the dialog box. Select Close to close the dialog box. You can also select the Automatically close when done check box when the dialog box appears.
Volume activation is a configurable solution that helps automate and manage the product activation process on computers running Windows operating systems that have been licensed under a volume licensing program. Volume activation is also used with other software from Microsoft (most notably the Office suites) that are sold under volume licensing agreements and that support volume activation
The Key Management Service (KMS) is an activation service that allows organizations to activate systems within their own network, eliminating the need for individual computers to connect to Microsoft for product activation. It does not require a dedicated system and can be easily co-hosted on a system that provides other services.
KMS requires a minimum number of either physical or virtual computers in a network environment. These minimums, called activation thresholds, are set so that they are easily met by Enterprise customers.
A KMS Key is used to activate the KMS host computer with a Microsoft activation server and can activate up to six KMS hosts with 10 activations per host. Each KMS host can activate an unlimited number of computers.
KSM keys can be assigned, by exception, to Open customers who meet the minimum KMS activation threshold for Windows Server, OS, and Office. To request such an exception, please submit a Web Form request to VLSC Support.
A Multiple Activation Key (MAK) activates systems on a one-time basis, using Microsoft's hosted activation services (which requires connection with a Microsoft activation server). Once computers are activated, no further communication with Microsoft is required.
We recommend customers use Key Management Service (KMS) to activate Multiple Activation Keys (MAK). KMS is the preferred activation method for large scale deployments. Many factors determine the number of activations associated with each MAK, including licenses purchased, the customer purchase pricing level, and their Volume Licensing program.
The number of activations available for a product may not always match the number of licenses purchased. Usually you will receive a higher number of activations in case you need to reinstall and activate some of your products. Please check the Licensing Summary section of your agreement to see your number of licenses. 2ff7e9595c
